Qi Overflow is a Spirit type Injury that usually results from eating an item with too much Qi. It can also be caused by certain Events and Secrets.
How it occurs[]
Whenever your character eats something, if they don't have enough Max Qi compared to the Qi content of the item, they will go into Qi Overflow, as if they received an attack that was too strong for them, but from nature itself.
This will either lead to instant death (if Max Qi is under the Survivability Limit) or magical injuries.
- If not instant death, remedied with Panacea (Miracle) or something that heals "Spirit" injuries like Spirit Powder.
- Otherwise, only Rebirth or certain Shendao resurrection miracles can save them.
The Qi Overflow Limit includes both the Qi that an [Elixir] gives, as well as any Qi that's accumulated on the item.
- For example, an Earth Flux which has absorbed 20,000 additional Qi has a survivability limit which is based on the cultivator's Qi Sense Skill Level, even though the item does not have any Qi normally.
Reducing risks[]
The Palm of Absorption Miracle will take the excess Qi off of an item. This is usually enough to bring it back in to the "safety" limits.
Pay special attention to things like Earth Flux, or Wicked Flux, which are particularly good at absorbing extra Qi from the environment and will kill careless Core Shaping cultivators preparing their Golden Core Breakthrough.
Injury severity[]
The ratio of the cultivator's Max Qi to the Qi that is gained from eating the item determines the severity of the injury[1].
First, determine the item's Qi amount. If the item has undergone Specter Refinement, multiply it with 1.2 to the power of the number of times it has been Specter Refined. For example, an item with 100,000 Qi and has been Specter Refined twice has 100000*1.2² = 144,000 Qi.
Next, determine the additional Qi absorbed by the item. The additional Qi is multiplied by the Qi Absorption Speed Bonus and added to the item's Qi. The higher the cultivator's Qi Sense, the more damage is taken from consuming a high Qi item. For example, eating a 20,000 Qi Earth Flux results in 10,000 additional Qi absorbed for a cultivator with 0 Qi Sense, 30,000 additional Qi for a cultivator with 20 Qi Sense, and 48,000 additional Qi for a minmaxed Snake Yaoguai with 38 Qi Sense.
If the total Qi from eating the item exceeds the cultivator's Max Qi, Qi Overflow occurs. To determine the severity of overflow, the following calculation is carried out:
- Subtract cultivator's Max Qi from the total item Qi
- Divide remaining Qi by the cultivator's Max Qi.
- Divide the number by 0.4 and round down to nearest whole number
- Deal the "Qi Overflow" injury that number of times. Each injury damages the cultivator by 30%[2]. If 4 stacks or more of injuries are received, the cultivator dies.
Item Qi/Max Qi | Injury stacks | Result |
---|---|---|
1 - 1.4 | 0 | Nothing |
1.4-1.8 | 1 | Injured |
1.8-2.2 | 2 | Injured |
2.2-2.6 | 3 | Unconscious[3] |
>2.6 | 4 | Death |
Survivability Limit[]
The "Survivability Limit" is the amount of Max Qi a cultivator must have to eat the item, go in to qi overflow, and not immediately die. The amount of Qi that the cultivator has currently does not affect this calculation, the cultivator will die/survive regardless whether they had full Qi or no Qi.
Again, this includes both the item's [Elixir] qi, and any qi gathered on it.
The limit = Total Qi / 2.6[4]
Warning![]
Remember:
- Palm of Absorption (remove excess Qi)
- Do not eat in Suppression Room, as it decreases Max Qi.
Dangerous Items[]
These are a list of dangerous items that can kill the cultivator, depending on their Max Qi.
Qi Regen Pill (believe it or not) = 3,000 Qi -> 1,153.85 Max Qi needed to survive. Or 1,200 to be on the safe side, as it still can have Qi on it.
Earth Flux and
Wicked Flux = 0 Qi, but they can absorb tens of thousands of Qi normally due to their high Accommodate value. Since they are often consumed by Core Shaping cultivators as part of their Golden Core Breakthrough preparation, this can lead to death due to their relatively low Max Qi.
Sun Pill = 200,000 Qi -> 76,923.08 , Tier 12 = 414,720 Qi -> 159,507.70
Divine Powder = 300,000 Qi -> 115,384.62 , Tier 12 = 622,080 Qi -> 239,261.54
Soul Pearl, Elemental Fruit = 500,000 Qi -> 192,307.70 Max Qi to survive
Spirit Seed,
Divine Bones = 1,000,000 Qi -> 384,615.39
