Each Tile in the game has a certain amount of each element.
The composition proportions can roughly be seen by using Feng Shui Vision, while the exact values can be seen by using the MoreGridInfo mod.
Contributing Factors[]
All of these will add to the amount of an element in a tile.
Amount vs Ratio[]
At the very least, each Ground tile has an innate Element composition. All buildable ones have at least two, to prevent an easy 100% of any single element.
Element Emitters change this amount by adding their element to the mix.
This changes the ratio of each element in that tile. (By changing both the amount of one single element, and total amount of all elements).
Element Strength[]
Each tile also has an Element Strength Value for each element, which determines how auspicious the tile is for any given element[1]. The values are not shown in-game directly, the MoreGridInfo Mod is required to see these values, however the Observatory allows a rough estimate using Feng Shui Vision.
The calculation uses the ratios for each of the Elements, and performs the following calculation:
- Begetting element increases Strength Value by 2x
- Same element increases Strength Value by 1x
- Overcoming element decreases Strength Value by 2x
- All other elements do not change the Strength Value.
Element Strength = 2*(BegettingElementRatio - OvercomingElementRatio) + SameElementRatio
Example calculations of Element Strength for Spirit Soil
TotalElement = 0+0.5+0.5+0+1 = 2
ElementRatio = Element/TotalElement

For a Metal FS building, ElementStrength = 2*(0.5-0)+0 = 1, which would be Auspicious. Note that the Metal building may also be an element emitter, which would change this calculation further.
Optimizing for Element composition[]
For breakthroughs and cultivation speed the breakthrough tile needs needs an elemental strength, of the begetting element to the cultivators law, to be at least 1.85 for the max bonus. For simplicity, this is best thought about in terms of "cost", i.e. how much Element Emit of the Begetting/Feeding element is needed to compensate for the Same, Neutral and Overcoming elements:
- One Element emit of Overcoming element costs 25.67 Element Emits of the Feeding element
- 1 Neutral costs 12.33 Feeding
- 1 Same costs 5.67 Feeding
Effects[]
Element Composition strength affects a variety of different properties within the game. When measuring the benefits or drawbacks provided by Feng Shui, only the Element strength of the target's element is considered.
For example, to determine the Auspiciousness of a Feng Shui Building of Metal element or the cultivation speed of a Metal element cultivator, only the
Metal Element strength is used.
Auspiciousness[]
The element strength averaged over the tiles a Building is on determines that building's auspiciousness, following the table below[2]: If the target is of None element, it is considered as Auspicious.
Element Strength | Rating |
---|---|
1.6 to 2.0 | Very Auspicious |
1.0 to 1.6 | Auspicious |
0.0 to 1.0 | Slightly Auspicious |
-1.0 to 0.0 | Slightly Ominous |
-1.6 to -1.0 | Ominous |
-2.0 to -1.6 | Very Ominous |
Breakthrough chances[]
The Element strength on the tile the Breakthrough happens is considered here[3]. If the Cultivator is of None element, they receive no bonus.
Element strength | Breakthrough chance | |
---|---|---|
>= | < | |
1.85 | +10% | |
1 | 1.85 | +5% |
0 | 1 | +2% |
-1 | 0 | -2% |
-1.9 | -1 | -5% |
-1.9 | -10% |
Cultivation Speed[]
The Element strength on the tile the cultivator is considered here[4]. If the Cultivator is of None element, they receive no bonus.
Element strength | Cultivation speed multiplier | |
---|---|---|
>= | < | |
1.85 | 1.5 | |
1 | 1.85 | 1.2 |
0 | 1 | 1.0 |
-1 | 0 | 0.8 |
-1.9 | -1 | 0.5 |
-1.9 | 0.1 |
